Too much water causes worms to migrate, but if they get stuck in the water without oxygen, they will die.
Wormington Town Vermicompost in Bluffton, SC has this video on Facebook showing an experiment getting composting worms to vacate their bedding without using light or food migration. Inspired by seeing worms active after heavy rains, he flooded a bucket of active worm bedding.
